Where the facts come from
Laws: the bill or code section on the state legislature's site, and regulators' own notices. Casinos: the operator's own terms and sweepstakes rules. We save a copy of each source on the day we read it, and each fact in our data carries the sentence it was taken from.
What we do when we cannot read the source
Some operators block automated reading of their sites, and some legislature pages fail to load. Then we use trade press and other guides, and we mark the fact as second-hand. A second-hand list of excluded states can close a state for a casino on our site, but it cannot open one.
When a casino is listed for a state
Only if the state does not prohibit sweepstakes casinos and the operator's terms do not exclude the state. If we could not confirm the operator's list, the casino is not listed anywhere.
No links on closed states
Pages for states where sweepstakes casinos are banned or unavailable contain no links to casinos, to our reviews or to our rankings.
Dates
“Last verified” is the day we last checked the record against its sources. It is not the day the page was rebuilt.
Corrections
If we get something wrong we fix the data, date the correction and leave a note on the page. Tell us and we will check it against the source.
What we are not
Not lawyers and not tax advisers. State records are reviewed by legal counsel before publication, and again whenever a law or the record changes.
